Niafo Idjé - A Place for Creative Encounters
Niafo Idjé is our artist residency, located in a remote area in the east part of the Netherlands. It's dedicated to artistic exchange, collaboration, and creation.
The name is inspired by the expression Niafo Idjé – “children of one mother” – reflecting the belief that artists from different cultures, backgrounds, and disciplines can come together as part of one creative family.
Located in a peaceful environment that encourages focus and reflection, Niafo Idjé offers artists the time, space, and support to develop new work, experiment with ideas, and build meaningful connections across borders.
We believe that artistic creation thrives when people meet, share knowledge, and learn from one another. Niafo Idjé is therefore not only a place to work, but also a place to exchange stories, traditions, skills, and visions for the future.

Who We Invite
Niafo Idjé welcomes artists whose work builds bridges between cultures and communities. In the past we've already invited several bands from Mali, mostly before and after their tours and in a few occasions also between concerts. Rehearsals took place and musical encounters with Dutch musicians. They've all loved the environment, being able to focus on their work and taking a rest at the same time. No crowded cities, no impersonal hotels, friendly hosts, no busy schedules and just cooking your own food is being highly appreciated.
We are particularly interested in:
- Musicians and composers
- Singers and bands
Special attention is given to artists from West Africa and Europe.

Projects We Support
We encourage projects that explore:
- Cultural exchange and collaboration
- Traditional and contemporary artistic practices
- Indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage
- Music and storytelling traditions
Residencies may result in performances, recordings, exhibitions, publications, workshops, films, or works in progress. Equally important are projects that focus on research, reflection, and artistic development without the pressure of producing a final outcome.
